Alfie Pearce beats Thai legend in RWS Super lightweight tournament…

On Saturday 10th August 2024 Alfie Pearce took on Sangmanee “million dollar baby” in Rajadamnern Stadium, Bangkok, as part of the RWS Super Light-weight tournament.

Sangmanee is very well respected Thai fighter who has had over 200 fights has held multiple stadium titles across 4 separate weight classes and was named “Muay Thai fighter of the year” in 2012.

Round 1:

Both fighters exchange early, feeling each other out. Pearce wastes no time marching forward and backing his opponent up to the ropes looking too get in close. eventually finding the clinch and landing a nice knee followed by a strong elbow. After the refs separation Pearce continues to walk forward pushing Sangmanee back before clinching again. the fighters exchange knees and Pearce lands another elbow. Again they are separated and Pearce marches forward, taking a few on the way in he clinches up and lands good knees. Sangmanee continues to throw left kicks to the, but Pearse continues to walk him down, get inside and land more knees. Sangmanee lands a solid left hand and leaves Pearse with a bloody nose. Undetered Pearse backs him into the corner and lands some nice punches of his own. Again Pearse walks forward, taking some kicks on the way in but ultimately landing more big elbows.

Round 2:

Sangmanee starts aggressively, landing left kicks to the body and follows up with some nice punches. Pearse backs him up across the ring to the ropes and lands another knee before being separated. Pearse immediately backs Sangmanee up again, takes a kick on the way before landing another big elbow in the clinch. Pearse continually marching forward, setting up his elbows and knees with the long jab, Sagmanee continues to through the left kick but Pearse seems to just walk through them seemingly unaffected. another barage of knees and elbows before being separated again. The round ends in the same way Pearse walking him down and landing knees and elbow after elbow, Sangmanee starting to look overwhelmed.

Round 3:

The final round starts with both fighters hugging each other Pearse showing his respect for the Thai legend before going straight back to work. they exchange a flurry of punches and Sagmmanee lands a beautiful combo. Pearse walks and Sangmanee lands another nicely timed combo snapping his head back. Pearse lands some nice long knees, and Sangmanee, although seemingly having some success with his hands starting to look tired. Pearse now seems to sit back and manage the distance, perhaps sensing he’s done enough at this stage for the win.

At the final bell Pearse drops to his knees and shows his respect since again for the Thai.

Pearse fought the perfect fight with relentless pressure forcing his style on Sangmanee, who on this occasion didn’t have the answers. Pearse takes a unanimous decision win.
