HCA BJJ comp team bring home medals…
On Saturday April 13th the team went along to the Grappling Industries London event. We took 7 adult and 3 junior competitors.
The juniors got things started and all of them performed brilliantly doing the club, their coaches and their families proud! All three came away with medals and I think we can safely say that the future of the BJJ team here at HCA is in safe and capable hands.
Massive congratulations to Josh Clarke (bronze), Henry Monehen (gold) and Bear Davey (gold). Taking the bold decision to compete is highly commendable, you all trained hard, fought hard and delivered on the day. Great work lads - were all very proud of you!
With such a hard task to follow it was over to the adults who were up next….
With 7 adult competitors representing HCA it was a busy day running between mats for the coaching team! Overall we had a mixed day, some wins, some losses, some great performances, some debut performances and always plenty of lessons learnt.
Huge congratulations to Craig Stearn who took bronze at 170lbs, Masters, blue belt in his first ever competition. Along the way Craig picked up a win via submission due to a well exectuted paper cutter choke and a solid points victory as well as narrowly missing out on a refs decision after a tied match. Craig approached this competition like a true pro, he was at every single training session, he did his own training outside of scheduled classes, formulated and most importantly stuck to the game plan and it all paid off. Well deserved Craig, a fantastic tournament outing representing the club and the BJJ team.
Well done to everyone who stepped up to compete and represent the club were proud of you all. Taking the step to compete is a big one and everyone gets benefit from doing so. The only way to improve is to keep going, making adjustments and putting yourself out there. There is plenty of lessons to take away from competing, what ever the results. we pick ourselves up and we got again!
A big thank you to everyone who came along to support and help coach the team. Your support is hugely appreciated and, as ever at HCA, its always a team effort.
On to the next one.
